Publishing a website means copying your files into your domain's directory on our servers. There are three ways to do this: from the Apanel console, using FTP software, or via SFTP.
In short: note the Host (FTP server name line of the Misc informations box), the Username and the Password, then upload the site's content directly into the domain's directory, with FTP software such as FileZilla or the File explorer.
Prerequisites
- Have access to your Apanel console.
- Have your website files ready on your computer.
Where do I find the FTP connection details?
- Log in to your Apanel console.
- From the dashboard, click the name of your domain to open Hosting management.
- In the left-hand column, locate the Misc informations box.
| Field |
Where to find it |
Example |
| Host |
FTP server name line |
web24.swisscenter.com |
| Username |
Username column of the FTP accounts page: the main account of the domain, or an FTP account you created |
votresite_002409 |
| Password |
Your hosting account password, or the password of the created FTP account |
(your own) |
| Port |
Leave the field empty: the client uses port 21 by default |

The simplest method: the file explorer
For a few files, there is no need to install anything. In Hosting management, Tools card, click File explorer: you can browse your hosting, upload, rename, delete, and modify permissions directly from your browser.
How do I publish with FTP software?
For a complete website or regular updates, an FTP client is more comfortable. FileZilla is free and available for Windows, macOS and Linux.
Download it from the official website filezilla-project.org. Versions distributed by third-party download sites are often bundled with unwanted software.
- Open FileZilla, then go to File → Site Manager → New Site.
- Enter the Host, Username, and Password noted above; select Normal for the authentication type.
- Click Connect.
- The window splits into two panes: your local files on the left, the server on the right. Navigate to your domain's directory on the right, then drag your website's content into it.
Upload the content, not the folder. Your homepage must be located directly in the domain's directory, named index.html or index.php, and not inside a subfolder, otherwise the browser will continue to display the default homepage. See Replace the SwissCenter placeholder page with your website.
How do I encrypt the connection?
Standard FTP transmits your password in plain text over the network. There are two ways to avoid this:
- FTP over TLS: in FileZilla, select FTP - File Transfer Protocol with the encryption setting Explicit FTP over TLS. This is the default setting: the client switches to encrypted mode as soon as the server offers it.
- SFTP: the transfer goes through your SSH access, which is end-to-end encrypted and authenticated by key. See Connect to your hosting via SSH.
How do I give a provider separate access?
If a service provider needs to publish to your website, do not share your hosting account credentials with them: create a dedicated FTP account for them, restricted to a specific directory, which you can delete later. See Create and manage an FTP account.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom |
Probable cause |
Solution |
| The connection establishes but freezes at the file listing |
Conflict between active mode and your firewall or router |
Switch the client to passive mode: see Choose passive or active mode in your FTP software |
| On Windows, with encrypted FTP, the transfer starts and then stops after a few files |
Windows Firewall tries to read the encrypted FTP connection (setting enabled by default on Windows 11) |
Switch to SFTP, or turn this setting off: see Choose passive or active mode in your FTP software, section "The transfer stops after a few files (Windows)" |
| Credentials rejected |
Password changed since, or incomplete username |
Retrieve the values from the Apanel console; additional FTP accounts are prefixed with the hosting account name |
| Files are present but the site does not display |
Files uploaded outside the domain's directory, or incorrect access permissions |
Check the location, then the permissions: see Change file and directory access rights |
