On a Samsung phone, the Email app that comes with the device is configured like any other IMAP email client. This article gives the values to enter, then explains how to remove and recreate an account that no longer works properly.
In short: in Email, tap Manual setup then IMAP account: server mail01.swisscenter.com (or the one in your console), port 993 incoming and 465 outgoing, security SSL/TLS, and your full email address as username.
Prerequisites
- An email address created on your domain, and its password.
- A Samsung phone with the Email app, installed by default.
What to know before you start
- The server name is shown in the Apanel console: open your domain's Hosting management and read, in the Misc informations box, the line E-mail SSL server name (POP3S / IMAPS / SMTPS). This article uses
mail01.swisscenter.com; if your console shows another name, use the one from the console.
- The username is always your full email address (for example
prenom.nom@exemple.ch), for receiving as well as for sending.
- Choose IMAP rather than POP: your messages stay on the server and are synchronized with your other devices and with webmail.
- If two-factor authentication is enabled in webmail, your usual password no longer works in the app: enter an app password instead.
- Labels may vary slightly depending on the version of Android and of the app.
Add the account
- Open the Email app.
- If this is your first account, the setup wizard starts automatically. Otherwise: Menu → Settings → Add account.
- Enter your full email address and your password, then tap Manual setup.
- Select IMAP account.
- Complete the two settings blocks:
| Setting |

Outgoing server |
| Server |
mail01.swisscenter.com |
mail01.swisscenter.com |
| Port |

465 |

In Security type, select plain SSL/TLS. Some versions of the app offer an "accept all certificates" variant: do not choose it. It encrypts the connection without checking which server it is talking to, which negates most of the protection.
- Tap Connect, then choose the synchronization frequency.
- Send yourself a test message to check sending and receiving.
If port 465 is refused, which happens on some mobile networks or public Wi-Fi, use port 587 with the security type STARTTLS for the outgoing server.
What should I do if the account becomes unstable?
An email account can sometimes go wrong on the phone: synchronization gets stuck, or errors keep coming back although the settings are correct. In that case, remove the account from the phone, then recreate it.
- Open the phone's Settings.
- Go to Accounts or Accounts and backup, depending on the version, until you reach the list of your accounts.
- Tap the email account concerned, choose Remove account, then confirm.
- Add the account again by following the "Add the account" section above, with the settings from the table.
With IMAP, your messages stay on the server: removing the account from the phone does not delete them, and they reappear once the account is recreated. If the account was set up with POP, first check in webmail that your messages are still there: those that only exist on the phone disappear with the account.
Troubleshooting
| What you see |
What to do |
| The connection fails with a certificate error |
Check the phone's date and time, then check that the server entered is the one shown in the Apanel console. Do not work around the error with "accept all certificates". |
| The password is rejected |
Enter it again and check that the username is the full email address, in both blocks. If two-factor authentication is active, use an app password. |
| Receiving works, sending fails |
Check that Authentication required is enabled for the outgoing server, with the same credentials. If port 465 is refused by the network, switch to port 587 with STARTTLS. |
| The connection is refused although the address and password are correct |
In the Apanel console, open the address's Services tab and check that IMAP and Sending mail (SMTP) are set to Yes, then click Save if you changed one. |
| The account used to work, then synchronization gets stuck or errors keep recurring |
Remove the account from the phone and recreate it (section above). |
Going further
- Email settings for all email clients (IMAP, POP, SMTP), to find the same settings for other email clients, including the Gmail app on Android.
- Manage the services of an e-mail address (webmail, POP, IMAP, SMTP, WebDAV), to allow or block IMAP and sending for an address.
- Choose between IMAP and POP, and understand the role of SMTP, to see why IMAP suits a phone better.
- Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) in webmail, to find the app password to enter when 2FA is active.
