DNS records tell the Internet where to find your website, emails, and services. Here are the most common ones. In all examples, replace votresite.ch with your domain name.
PTR and SOA records cannot be defined from your Apanel console: they are managed by SwissCenter. All others are under your control, in the DNS manager (see Adding or editing a DNS record (A, CNAME, MX, TXT)).
In short: you manage the A, AAAA, CNAME, ALIAS, MX, TXT, NS, SRV, NAPTR and CAA records yourself in the DNS manager of the Apanel console; PTR and SOA records are managed by SwissCenter.
Which records can I manage?
| Type |
Purpose |
Example |
| A |
Associates the domain with an IPv4 address. This is the record that points your domain to the web server. |
votresite.ch IN A 192.0.2.1 |
| AAAA |
Same role as A, but for an IPv6 address. |
votresite.ch IN AAAA 2001:db8::1 |
| CNAME |
Creates an alias to another name. Typically used to point www to the main domain. |
www.votresite.ch IN CNAME votresite.ch |
| ALIAS |
Plays the role of a CNAME where a CNAME is not allowed, that is at the root of the domain (votresite.ch without www). The DNS manager offers it as ALIAS (Apex-compatible CNAME). |
votresite.ch IN ALIAS autre-service.example.com |
| MX |
Designates the email receiving servers. The number is a priority: the lower it is, the higher the priority (10 takes precedence over 20). |
votresite.ch IN MX 10 mx1.swisscenter.com |
| TXT |
Stores free text. Mainly used for email authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) and to prove that the domain belongs to you. |
votresite.ch IN TXT "v=spf1 a mx include:fwdsc.swisscenter.com -all" |
| NS |
Indicates the name servers that are authoritative for the domain. |
votresite.ch IN NS ns1.swisscenter.com |
| SRV |
Indicates where to reach a specific service (SIP, XMPP…). |
_sip._tcp.votresite.ch IN SRV 10 60 5060 sip.votresite.ch |
| NAPTR |
Rewrites a name into a service address, mainly for telephony (SIP, ENUM). Rarely needed, unless your operator asks for it. |
Value provided by your operator |
| CAA |
Restricts the list of authorities allowed to issue an SSL certificate for the domain. |
votresite.ch IN CAA 0 issue "letsencrypt.org" |
Which records are managed by SwissCenter?
PTR (reverse resolution)
Associates an IP address with a domain name (the reverse of an A record). It matters for the reputation of your email sending.
1.2.0.192.in-addr.arpa IN PTR votresite.ch
SOA (Start of Authority)
Contains the global parameters of the zone: reference server, contact address of the zone administrator, and propagation delays. The example below is for illustration only: at SwissCenter, the reference server, the contact and the delays are set by our name servers, not by you.
votresite.ch IN SOA ns1.swisscenter.com admin.votresite.ch (
2024091902 ; numéro de série
7200 ; rafraîchissement
3600 ; nouvelle tentative
1209600 ; expiration
86400 ) ; TTL minimum
