To analyze a suspicious message or a delivery problem, support needs the full headers of the message. Here is how to get them in Thunderbird and send them to us.
In short: select the message, open File > Save As > File and attach the .eml file to your request to support. Alternatively, display the message source (Ctrl+U), copy it into a text editor and send the .txt file.
How do I save the message to a file?
The saved file contains the whole message, headers included, with no risk of leaving part of it out.
- Select the message in Thunderbird.
- Open the File > Save As > File menu (if the menu bar is hidden, press the Alt key to show it).
- Save the file, in
.eml format, somewhere easy to find.
- Attach this file to your request to support.
How do I copy the message source?
- Select the message, then display its source: shortcut Ctrl+U (Cmd+U on Mac), menu View > Message Source, or the More > View Source button in the message header.
- In the window that opens, select all the content (Ctrl+A, or right-click then Select All).
- Copy everything (Ctrl+C, or right-click then Copy).
- Paste the text into a text editor (for example Notepad on Windows) and save the file.
- Send the
.txt file to support so that we can analyze it.
